Well, I’m rather looking forward to this because I’ve never analyzed a football game involving either The Citadel or Coastal Carolina before. CCU is a FCS program while The Citadel might be one of the top five schools in the nation this year. In case you’re wondering: Both are located in South Carolina, approximately 100 miles from each other..

It’s the third all-time meeting between the schools and the first since Coastal Carolina joined the FBS. They split the first two matches, with each team winning on the roads. The most recent matchup was in the 2015 FCS playoffs. Let’s see what the College Football odds are for this game.

Citadel Bulldogs vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

Thursday, September 02, 2021 – 07:00 PM EDTBrooks Stadium

The Citadel Won’t Be Passing Much

The Citadel had an unusual season in 2020. The Bulldogs had four games in September and October last year, and all were lost.. They and the rest (mostly) of the FCS returned to spring football, and the Bulldogs went 2-6. They were picked to finish eighth in the Southern Conference.

Four Citadel players were selected as All-Southern Conference preseason playersThe first team consisted of linebacker Willie Eubanks III, punter Matt Campbell, and punter Matt Campbell. Eubanks played in eight games last year and finished second on the team with 70 tackles.

He had 6.0 tackles-for loss, 2.0sacks, and one forced fumble. Eubanks was also named to the Buck Buchanan Preseason Watch List, as well as many other preseason All-American list. The award goes to the FCS’s top defensive player.

Because of COVID and that The Citadel is a private school, it’s hard to learn much about the program because media basically aren’t allowed at practices. The Bulldogs’ starting QB is Jaylan Adams, a former defensive backWho was the No. Brandon Rainey, who was second in the rankings a year ago. This is a run heavy wishbone offense.

The Bulldogs defeated Furman in last year’s gameWithout completing even one pass. That’s crazy. Adams was the leader in carries (179), rush yards (757) as well as rushing touchdowns (nine).

Loaded Again in Coastal Carolina

This will be only Coastal Carolina’s fifth season as an FBS member and the first time the No. 22 Chanticleers open their season ranked. Coach Jamey Chadwell’s club Was ranked as high a No. 9Last year at one point, Finished at 11-1(8-3-1 ATS), and co-Sun Belt Conference winners. The Sun Belt title match against Louisiana was cancelled due to a COVID problem with the Chanticleers. They lost 37-34 in OT in Cure Bowl to Liberty.

The school’s ability to stop Chadwell leaving for a Power 5 job was a major win. Total of Grayson McCall, quarterback, has 19 starters back for the 2020 club.. He was the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Freshman and Player of The Year. In addition, he was also the preseason choice to win Player Of The Year in 2021.

McCall was the Sun Belt leader with a score of 184.3. McCall finished He completed 68.8% of his passes, which resulted in 26 TDs and three picks. While rushing for 569 yards and seven score points, he ran for 7 scores and rushed for five69 yards. He has the chance to play at the next level. He is eligible to play at the next level.

The Chants have one of the nation’s top tight ends in Isaiah LikelyIn 2020, he caught 30 passes to gain 601 yards and five touchdowns. The Sun Belt’s first player to catch passes for 20.03 yards per catch was 10th among all players. He’s on the preseason Mackey Award list, which goes to the nation’s top tight end.

The defense is led by the 2020 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and cornerback D’Jordan Strong. In his first year, he had 5 picks and 30 tackles. Coastal Carolina is currently 11-7 all time in season openers. Brooks Stadium is 4-2 and FBS season openers are 2-2. It beat Kansas 38-23 last year.

The Pick

Coastal Carolina is given an over-under wins total of 10 at SBR’s top betting sites, with the over a -130 favorite. Louisiana is the -110 favorite to win Sun Belt. Coastal is second at +160. Those schools don’t meet in the regular season.

It’s possible but not likely that the Chants reach the College Football Playoff if they run the table. None of the Power 5 schools have made it to the playoffs so far.

This will be a big game. The Citadel’s offense is simply too weak to cover such a large number. CCU has been a home favorite in its previous three matches, so they are my NCAAF choice for this game.
