Welcome back for another Sunday, friends. Today is the NFL’s opening Sunday, but there are still baseball games that will be played for several more weeks. Today’s slate features a couple of pitching mismatches I’d like to target for some potential lopsided outcomes and a pitchers’ duel that looks like a good under play. Let’s get to it.
Here are my top picks for betting on Sunday, September 12. Are you looking for information on betting or baseball? Feel free to reach out on Twitter @mikeMaher.

Cincinnati Reds ML (-133)
These days, it’s hard to see J.A. It’s hard to see Happ on the slate, so you can’t put your money against him. But that wasn’t the initial thinking here. This was an unexpected bonus when researching the bet. Sonny Gray’s August ERA was 2.93 and his September ERA is 3.60. Happ’s September start has seen him post a 6.24 ERA, allowing 11 earned runs in his six innings. Both teams are scratching and clawing for a playoff appearance here, but the “Happ Factor” is coming into play for the Cardinals. If you want to take a bigger swing, I’d even consider giving the runs here and moving this one from -133 to +120 on BetMGM.
Atlanta Braves -1.5 Runs (-120)
I couldn’t do -250 for this one, but I am comfortable giving up the 1.5 runs to move this one to -120. As they try to develop Edward Cabrera, the Marlins will reportedly keep Edward Cabrera as their starting pitcher. He has already thrown 12 1/3 innings and has seven walks, 10 earned runs, and has a total of 10 earned runs. Max Fried, the Braves’ starter, has pitched to a phenomenal 1.97 ERA over 64 innings in the second-half. While the Braves are booming and have a deep lineup centered upon MVP candidate Freddie Freeman; the Marlins, however, are fading and just lost Jesus Aguilar in the middle.
Padres-Dodgers UNDER 7.5 Runs (-110)
Max Scherzer vs. Blake Snell. Scherzer, who was traded to the Dodgers by the MLB trade deadline has a 1.05 ERA with 63 strikeouts over 43 innings. Despite a slow start to the season Snell posted a 3.28 ERA for the second half and a 2.57 ERA during September. In August, he had a 1.72 ERA. The line is still at 7.5 runs despite this pitching matchup. Both pitchers are capable of shutting down on Sunday, increasing the chances for the under. FOX Bet offers this 7.5 under at -110, the current best odds.
